Group exhibition – The Resurrection / Reopening of Trafo Gallery

The history of Trafačka, an association of artists and a production association, began in the vacated space of a former substation in Prague's Vysočany at the end of 2006. For eight years of its existence, a dilapidated hall and a neighboring apartment building in the heart of an industrial ghetto became a spontaneous art center with residential studios, own gallery and multifunctional space. This stage is documented in detail in the extensive book Trafology, which Trafačka prepared for her ninth birthday.

The duration of Trafačka was originally conditioned by a joint creative space, however, after years of intensive formation and close relationships, it was clear that even after moving out of the subsequently demolished buildings, the original staff of members would want to continue together. A long search and already almost certain locations alternated with uncertainty, until at the end of 2015 the final decision was made regarding the rental of halls in the Prague market in Holešovice, in April 2016 to take them over and now in September 2016 to open the Trafo Gallery after several necessary interior modifications to the public.

Currently, Trafačka runs studios in the former watch glass factory in Nuslí (Michal, Cimala, H3T architects, Michal Pustějovský) and in Halls 14 and 18 in the Prague Market (Jan Kaláb, Jakub Nepraš, Tets Ohnari and Zdeněk Trs). The exhibition spaces in Hall 14 cover almost 200 m2 and have a large ceiling skylight, which gives the space a unique atmosphere. In the neighborhood of Jatek78 and hopefully soon other cultural institutions, the Prague Market will become a unique art center in the Artdistrict 7 zone, in the slightly bizarre backdrop of Vietnamese shops and restaurants and many years of butchery history.

The exhibition Zmrtvýchvstání / Resurrection presents 14 authors who have passed through Trafačka in the past or are becoming part of its future exhibition plan. As in the past, the Trafo Gallery program will deal with artists from its own ranks, but often diversified by prominent Czech and foreign personalities. Until the end of the year, there will also be a solo exhibition by Jakub Janovský called Silicon Family and an exhibition of Mark Ther's drawings, both under the curatorship of Otto M. Urban and with the publication of their own catalogue.
