Jaroslav Róna

Bio

Academic sculptor Jaroslav Róna is a Czech sculptor and painter, ceramist, glassblower, graphic artist, scenographer, man of letters and amateur actor. After finishing elementary school in 1972, Jaroslav Róna trained as a furrier at the Kara Hlinsko company, and studied at the Secondary Vocational School of Fine Arts in Prague in 1975-1978. After graduating from art school, he continued to study glass art in the studio of prof. S. Libenský at VŠUP, which he graduated in 1984. In 1985 he spent several months as an assistant to prof. Libenský at the summer glassmaking school in Pilchuck, USA. He has been a member of the Pražská pětka theater group since the mid-1980s. He is a founding member of the art group Tvrdohlaví. In the years 2005-2012 he taught at the Academy of Arts in Prague. He is the author of the monument to Franz Kafka (2003) in the Old Town in Prague. He devotes himself to sculpture, painting, drawing, book illustration, scenography, and his works are represented in public and private collections in the country and abroad.
